Magic and A Few Laughs

I found a few clips from various Penn & Teller magic shows on YouTube a few days ago. Then I found some full episodes from a show they did in England called “The Unpleasant World of Penn & Teller”. They are good for that gory magic that Penn & Teller are known for and if you are going to watch “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” a new show thats in production. I suggest you check them out.

Look in the related videos for more episodes.

Movie A Day: Day 13

Cover of Johnny English (Widescreen Edition)

I think I’m going to have a spy movie week. Only there won’t be any Bond movies.

First in spy week is Johnny English

Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) is a low level agent in the british secret service. He sits behind a desk getting information for the real spies all day, when really he’s dreaming of going out in the field to catch criminals and seduce gorgeous women. Then when all the spies in England are killed in an explosion, Johnny finally gets his chance. Working with his sidekick Bough (Ben Miller) heĀ  must catch the person he thinks is responsible for this (John Malkovich).

This is one of my favourite spy movies. I think its actually one of the first DVD’s I ever bought. I don’t know if its Rowan Atkinson’s acting or the incredibly silly story but this movie always makes me laugh.

Watch this movie.

recommendation: Buy (closer to download)

Tomorrow will continue spy week with Get Smart

Just Score Already

I’ve been watching the world cup as I’m sure most of you have too and I’ve become really bored with most of it. It seems that all has happened so far is that lots of good teams have ties some not so good teams, teams that would normally be knocked out in the first round have been holding their own and Germany flattened Australia 4-0. Just draws and slow games. It is getting very boring. So far the only exciting part was the last 15 minutes of the Cameroon vs. Japan game. That was a nail biter. I’m getting to the point that I might not watch any games that don’t have my team in them.

I of course am cheering for England and its not looking good since the 1-1 draw with the U.S. which I didn’t get to see (I’m so mad, I heard it was good). Canada didn’t qualify (big surprise..) because let’s face it, we’re not very good. Don’t get me wrong though, Canadians are big fans of Football (don’t call it soccer) we just can’t seem to get enough actual players together in order to make a good team. So for now I will be cheering for England. At least until Canada gets a team that gets past qualifying.

You Know Your Election Hopes Are Low When…

You know you’re probably not going to be elected to parliament when you get sued by a food company for using one of their products in an ad. This is exactly what happend to the BNP in England according to Daily Expresso,

Unilever, the maker of Marmite, has threatened legal action against the British National Party to stop it from using a jar of the spread in a party broadcast.

Unilever said it had not given the BNP permission to use its product and clearly doesn’t want its brand to be associated with a political party widely reputed to be a racist organisation.

BNP leader Nick Griffin has a reputation as a holocaust denier and last year, in a BBC interview, suggested that European navies should be used to destroy refugee boats off the northern coast of Africa in order to prevent them claiming asylum within the EU.

The BNP’s broadcast has been removed from their official website, but it can still be seen on YouTube.

In an official statement Mr Griffin went said that the Marmite jar had been added in reaction to a recent advertising campaign for Marmite which he said mocked the BNP.

The Marmite advert he referred to featured two spoof political parties, the ‘Love Party’ and the ‘Hate Party’ – an obvious reference to the Marmite catchphase “you’ll either love it or hate it”.

The BNP claims the Hate Party was “clearly based” on itself.

This clearly will not help the BNP numbers with the Marmite lovers.
