Movie A Day: Day 5

Kill Bill

Time to finish what was started yesterday. Today’s movie was Kill Bill: Vol. 2

This movie was mostly what a sequel should be. The movie starts with a brief review of part one and then starts with the rest of the story of the bride trying to kill bill. It elaborates plot points that were mentioned (mainly the wedding day massacre) in the first part and finishes the rest of the story being told. There is plenty of action and special effects. Things that are essential in this movie.

There are a few things that need to be improved. Mainly the second half of the movie. After a certain point (I won’t go into detail in case you haven’t watched it) the story slows down considerably and it gets kind of boring. There was even one point that I wanted to stop watching but I found that I wanted to know what happened so I stuck with it and watched the end.

If you liked Kill Bill: Vol. 1 then you will like most of Kill Bill: Vol. 2

Recommendation: BUY (If you saw and liked vol. 1. Although you probably bought them together)

Day 6 will be the final Tarantino movie: Death Proof

Movie A Day: Day 4

Cover of "Kill Bill - Volume Two"

Kill Bill - Volume one

The second half of Tarantino week (I only have six movies) begins with Kill Bill: Vol. 1

Kill bill is about a bride (Uma Thurman) whose wedding party gets killed during the wedding ceremony by a team of assassins, the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. A team she was once part of. The attack leaves the bride in a coma for four years. When she wakes up she decides to go and get revenge by killing the assassins and the man who is their boss, Bill (David Carradine).

This is only part one so you can guess that it ends unfinished. There is one scene when you learn about the life and career of one assassin, O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu). This scene was a bit odd for me because this is a live action movie (it has real people in it) and having a large animated scene distracted me a bit. If I wanted something animated, I would watch a movie that was fully animated, not a mix of both.

The other problem I have with this movie is the story. It is a good story and is set up well but it gets a bit carried away with the bride trying to kill O-Ren Ishii. The story set up the plot line of the bride going to kill the assassins and then Bill but most of the movie ended up being the bride fighting through O-Ren Ishii’s guards and associates.

I’m not complaining about the movie though (actually, yeah i am a bit). Overall it is an amazing movie. It’s full of action and fight scenes. With lots of senseless violence and blood that Quentin Tarantino is so good at providing (except in Jackie Brown, that movie wasn’t very good).

If you like action, you’ll love this movie. I hope part two is just as good and doesn’t turn out to be a crappy sequel made just to finish the story (not mentioning any names, *cough*matrix*cough*)

Recomendation: BUY

Day five will be Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (obviously)
